ONE IN THE SAME

We Are All HUMAN

Although today people across the globe look different on the outside, it wasn’t always this way. When we – Homo sapiens – first evolved in Africa about 300,000 years ago there was likely very little difference in physical characteristics. This time in our history was marked by dramatic climate change and as groups of people traveled around the world, they adapted to their environments.

Our differences are cosmetic, essentially skin deep. It’s like wearing an extra jacket or sunglasses. The body changed slightly to better handle the different climates. Today we have the technology to change our climate / environment that our bodies don’t need to change.

Some Science

According to the Smithsonian Institution's Human Origins Program, Archeologists have found fossils of over 6,000 individuals over the years. New discoveries are being made still, today. Scientists are learner more and more and have been able to put together a further complete picture of our lineage.

Through the examination of fossils uncovered from the earth, it has been learned that the human species is part of a large family tree, not just a single line one evolving after the other. There were periods in the past when several human species lived at the same time.

See the Human Family Tree as shown by the Smithsonian Institute’s Human Origin’s Program. We – Homo sapiens – are the only surviving species.

As new fossils are found and additional information can be extrapolated, it will only add to the diverse and expanding human family tree. Homo sapiens evolved in Africa about 300,000 years ago. As populations grew, technologies advanced, and cultures took shape the peoples migrated worldwide. Having settled in vastly different climates, human body characteristics changed over time.

In hot regions with more sunlight – adaptations involved

  1. less body hair, more sweat glands so perspiration could evaporate and cool the body better;

  2. darker skin to prevent harmful UV rays from penetrating the skin;

  3. long-limbed build to better lose body heat.

In colder regions with less sunlight – adaptations involved

  1. light skin allows the penetration of the little sunlight they get;

  2. short stocky build to retain more body heat;

  3. epicanthic fold protecting the eyes from hard driving snow;

  4. blue eyes to see better in reduced light.

Coastal regions – coastal peoples who eat diets rich in seafood enjoy this alternate source of vitamin D. That means that some Arctic peoples remained dark-skinned even in low sun areas.

We are the same – HUMAN. We should not be hating anyone for their physical appearance. Anyone or anything that tells you to hate someone – anyone, should be re-evaluated. Is this something you want as a moral guide?

Anyone or anything that tells you that someone is a degenerate or criminal or evil just for the way they look or because they have different beliefs than you – you should step back and re-evaluate. Think about that…read that sentence again.

Please, remember, we are all HUMAN and we are all on this planet together. Hate is not the answer.
